The Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDG) Cell at Moonray Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) has been established to promote equity, inclusion, and equal educational opportunities for students belonging to socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The Cell strives to create an inclusive academic environment by extending academic, financial, emotional, and institutional support to students from economically weaker sections, marginalized communities, first-generation learners, and other disadvantaged groups.
The SEDG Cell functions in accordance with the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), the Government of Telangana, and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH), ensuring that all eligible students receive equal access to quality education, scholarships, mentoring, and career development opportunities.

Objectives
The SEDG Cell aims to:
- Identify and support students from economically weaker and socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Facilitate access to Central and State Government scholarships, fee reimbursement schemes, fellowships, and educational assistance programs.
- Provide academic mentoring, remedial coaching, bridge courses, and counseling services.
- Conduct awareness programmes on scholarships, government welfare schemes, constitutional rights, and social justice.
- Encourage participation in co-curricular, extracurricular, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and placement activities.
- Promote gender equity, equal opportunity, and non-discrimination within the campus.
- Strengthen confidence, leadership, communication, and employability skills among disadvantaged students.
Functions and Activities
The SEDG Cell undertakes the following activities:
- Identification of socio-economically disadvantaged students through institutional records and counseling.
- Guidance regarding scholarship applications, fee reimbursement, educational loans, and financial assistance.
- Academic mentoring and remedial coaching for academically weak students.
- Organizing career guidance programmes, personality development workshops, and employability skill training.
- Conducting awareness programmes on government welfare schemes and student rights.
- Providing psychological counseling and mentoring whenever required.
- Coordinating with the Equal Opportunity Cell, SC/ST Cell, Anti-Ragging Committee, Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), and Grievance Redressal Cell for comprehensive student support.
- Monitoring student progress and recommending appropriate institutional interventions.
